Don’t look a gift horse… (May 6, 2014: New York Daily News)

Downers Grove, Ill.: As a horse owner, I’ve been closely following your coverage on the horse-and-carriage industry. I’m horrified that the activists are so ignorant of what it takes to care for a horse that they are willing to overload rescues and sanctuaries for seemingly no reason. It costs me well over $600 per month to board and feed my horse. This does not include his farrier, vet or dental needs. If one horse can cost me more than half my paycheck, how much are 220 going to cost? Where is the money going to come from to take care of these horses? Melissa Kirschbaum
