Careful what you wish for (April 20, 2014: New York Daily News)

Killingworth, Conn.: Perhaps Voicer David Karopkin believes that if well-cared for NYC carriage horses were not pulling their carriages, they would be grazing in sun-kissed meadows. As maintaining a horse is expensive — the farrier and vet bills alone — their more probable fate would be a truck to a slaughterhouse in Canada or Mexico, which is where 152,000 other U.S. horses ended up in 2013. With friends like Karopkin, the carriage horses don’t need enemies! Mary Santarcangelo
