It’s not really about  the horses (July 5, 2015: New York Daily News)

Chattahoochee Hills, Ga.: It should be obvious to everyone by now that the reason NYCLASS is stooping to such despicable tactics is because the facts regarding carriage horses prove there is no actual reason to ban them (“Vile tactics in horse ads,” July 1).

Investigations show the horses are well cared-for and content. Quinnipiac polls show New Yorkers favor keeping them by a wide margin. The safety record of carriage horses is unmatched by any other equine activity. And legally, there is no compelling governmental interest in banning the industry.

Which raises the question: Why on earth is NYCLASS spending such vast amounts of money attempting to ban them? Is it truly just about the real estate, or are they hoping to make even more money selling the electric cars to the city?

One thing is for sure: It’s not about the horses — and never has been. You don’t spend millions trying to ban well cared-for horses while thousands of homeless horses go to slaughter each year. Victorena Minchew
