Just say neigh (July 20, 2015: New York Daily News)

Franklin, Mass.: I do not live in New York, but one of my fondest memories is the carriage ride I took through Central Park with my grandparents when I was about 9 years old. I still remember that our horse’s name was Stomper, and I was thrilled when the driver let a horse-crazy little girl hang onto the end of the reins for a minute, under his watchful eye, so I could tell my friends at home that I drove one of the Central Park horses all by myself. I have watched the recent debate over the carriage horses with dismay. It breaks my heart that a radical minority could ruin this longstanding institution. How can we justify ruining the lives of the carriage drivers and putting the horses in jeopardy based on misinformation and hidden agendas? Susan Hamilton
