Why we bucked Bill’s horse ban  (August 21, 2015: New York Daily News)

Manhattan: Why has the mayor’s proposed carriage-horse ban failed? City voters overwhelming support the carriage horses and oppose the proposed ban. All the money spent by NYCLASS cannot change this. The carriage horses are well cared for. They receive regular vet care, farrier care and proper nutrition. Besides, there is a comprehensive series of regulations in place that are regularly enforced by the NYPD, the Department of Health and the Department of Consumer Affairs.

Finally, no New Yorker wants to throw hundreds of hard-working, law-abiding men and women out of work. They’ve done nothing wrong and they should be allowed to support their families. Craig Sheldon

Manhattan: Now that the mayor has finally seen the light regarding the much loved carriage horses, perhaps those self-appointed champions of animal welfare at NYCLASS and PETA might redirect their efforts toward real issues of animal treatment, such as the mayor’s plans for more animal rescue centers. Nick Bacon
