Ride NYC horse ban into the sunset (August 26, 2015: New York Daily News)

Chattahoochee Hills, Ga.: I am absolutely delighted that Mayor de Blasio has finally come to his senses and realized there is no legal or ethical way he is going to ban Central Park’s beloved and well-cared-for carriage horses. However, Liam Neeson is correct that it is time for the New York City Council to put this issue to rest once and for all, by removing this misguided attempt at legislation from consideration. As even de Blasio has admitted, the people of New York City have spoken: They want the carriage horses to stay.

Not a single accusation of abuse has been proven. It is inhumane (to use one of de Blasio’s favorite rhetorical flourishes) to keep drivers on tenterhooks any longer, wondering if they can plan for the future or will be forced into unemployment and homelessness the next time a wealthy campaign contributor casts covetous eyes on the horse stable property.
