Move the horse stables? Just say…Neigh! (December 2, 2015: New York Post)

New York Post Letters to the Editor, 12/2/2015

I agree with Nicole Gelinas about the hansom carriage horses (“Unbridled Bunk,” Post Opinion, Nov. 30). Mayor de Blasio says he wants to move the stables to Central Park from the West Side. This is a really bad idea.

Central Park’s precious public land shouldn’t be used for this purpose.
Isn’t it clear that the mayor’s objective is to transfer the real estate from where the stables are now located to developers who will exploit the opportunity for their own gain?
These developers will make huge contributions to the mayor’s reelection campaign fund.

Horse-carriage industry supporters have been saying from Day One that the proposed ban was all about several parcels of land in the Hudson Yards redevelopment district and that a very wealthy real-estate investor wanted access to this land for his business.
For years, the supporters of a horse-carriage ban have accused us of being crazy and fervently denied such a motive.
De Blasio’s latest hare-brained scheme validates exactly that. By making the horses vacate their Hudson Yard stables, the buildings that house them will be rendered valueless and buyers will be able to scoop them up at a bargain price.
