**Beating a dead horse (June 21, 2014: New York Daily News)**

Springfield, Mass.: Thank you, NYPD, for requiring the fake dead horse, brought to the NYC courthouse by protesters from NYCLASS and PETA, to be moved. The use of animal-injury porn exploits actual animal suffering and desensitizes viewers to cruelty. Given that the incident being protested today was a carriage driver allegedly driving a horse with the horse equivalent of athlete’s foot, the dead horse symbol doesn’t even make sense. NYCLASS, better put a leash on your dog, PETA. Their gratuitous shock-and-offend tactics haven’t been effective for years. Kathryn Baker
