The high cost of housing horses (February 5, 2016: New York Daily News)

Bardonia, N.Y.: Does anyone consider the cost of moving the horses into the Central Park building that has been the 86th St. maintenance shop for about 100 years? This building is centrally located and housed the tradesmen, and their trucks, equipment and materials. They maintain all the comfort stations, bath houses, swimming pools, ice skating rinks, Arsenal office building, zoo and so on. I worked there for 24 years as a carpenter and then supervisor alongside plumbers, electricians, steamfitters, masons, blacksmiths and roofers. The Department of Parks and Recreation considered finding a replacement building while I was working there, as they wanted to move the police horses in. The best they could find was a building in the Bronx, too far away and at a prohibitive cost. Charles Reiter
