Put the horse before the car (December 4, 2014: New York Daily News)

Brooklyn: Regarding the current standoff between opponents and supporters of horse carriages in Central Park, there is a possible solution that might satisfy both sides. Since animal rights activists, as well as Mayor de Blasio, consider the working conditions of horses in the park to be cruel and unsafe due to car traffic, the mayor could support longstanding proposals to ban cars from the park. In addition to creating a more humane environment for horses, a car-free park would provide a much-needed refuge from traffic for many other large mammals, including the often-overlooked Homo sapiens. Jeff Prant
