Fight the power (December 4, 2014: New York Daily News)

Foxboro, Mass.: I don’t personally know any carriage-horse drivers, but I do believe that, like a frog in a pot of boiling water, we can be hurt by abuses of power if they are discovered too late. I have loved horses the better part of my life, so naturally when I saw how one of the few remaining jobs for horses was coming under fire, I became incensed. I can’t believe how the carriage drivers have been allowed to be attacked for so long. I wrote to the carriage people, and here’s what I suggested: If you haven’t hired an attorney, the time to do it is now. I think the carriage horses and drivers have been disrespected long enough. Jeanne Lightbody
