Galloping down the wrong path (December 6, 2014: New York Daily News)

Manhattan: Horse-drawn carriages have long been a part of the very fabric of our city. Indeed, because of their unique historical interest, rather than being banned they should be given landmark status. To ban them would be a monumental loss not only for our city but for the drivers and their families as well. When the mayor insists he arrived at his decision out of concern for the horses, he is being disingenuous, as he never bothered to visit the stables to see if they were being properly taken care of. Rather than making an informed decision, he is pushing this ban primarily because the anti-carriage industry funneled large amounts of money into his campaign. Show this mayor the money and he’ll follow you anywhere. But I must say, he is progressive. Since taking office he is getting progressively worse at fulfilling his mayoral responsibilities. Brian Madden
