Talking horse epidemic (January 11, 2015: New York Daily News)

Wallkill, N.Y.: I am a backyard horse in upstate New York whose owner lost interest. There used to be grass in my pasture, but it’s winter now and there’s none left. At least it’s been pretty warm, because the stream running through the field has only frozen for a few days at a time. My shelter collapsed with the weight of that last heavy snow. I have been standing alone in this field for years, with nobody but the squirrels for company. My feet and legs hurt from my hooves growing so long that they are at funny angles, and I can hardly walk. I wish I could go to NYC and pull a carriage, so I could be cared for and loved again. A walk in the park would be lovely! Donna Putnam
