Barker lacking in horse sense (February 2, 2015: New York Daily News)

North Brunswick, N.J.: Someone needs to explain to Voicer Bob Barker that horses are work animals. Since humans first arrived in the Western Hemisphere, the horse has been used for transportation and driving cattle. As recently as World War I, horses were used to move armies and carry cavalry soldiers into battle — which is far noisier and more dangerous than a few horns and loud music.

Today, we can go to race tracks around the world and watch as horses are spurred and whipped towards the finish line. The carriage horses along Central Park South are fed, watered, housed and groomed. They provide jobs for their handlers and carriage drivers. They bring money into the City of New York and delight the tourists.

I respect Bob Barker. He has been an inspiration to me for his support of the Sea Shepherd Organization, an anti-whaling group. But this ridiculous campaign of Mayor de Blasio’s is not worthy of Barker or his time. Casey Klein
