Clinton Park Stables on W. 52nd St. is the largest of the four carriage stables. It houses 39 of the 68 carriages 78 horses. It was opened in 2003, when a group of carriage owners got together to found a co-op owned stable.
The building was originally built in the 1880s to house some of the city’s sanitation and streets department horses.
Fully renovated in 2003, Clinton Park Stables features wash stalls, automatic waterers, misting and ventilation systems, an upholstery workshop and the ability to perform mechanical repairs on carriages and carriage wheels.
Horses live on the 2nd and 3rd floors, and are bedded with straw from a Pennsylvania mushroom farmer, who collects the muck and manure to grow organic mushrooms on.
Clinton Park Stables is open to the public every year during our annual ClipClopNYC event.
